ensō phase I is the genesis of the artists’ collaboration.
The collection premiered in 2022, with four 1/1 edition animated artworks presented on-chain as ERC-721 NFTs.
Sound design is created in collaboration with Tokyo based artist Tokiomi.

Process
ensō : phase I is a traditional cel animation, comprising hundreds of individually hand painted frames. Imagined as the genesis piece of a two part short film, it is a meditation on change, continuity and renewal.
The 3D animations were inspired by the visual motifs in the short film ensō : phase I, and the main concepts were informed by EKS.REI’s original painting of a moth titled “individuation” (2020). A combination of digital tools and techniques were utilized in the process, and rendered in Cinema 4D and Redshift.
